June 2014: NSW Teen camp

Teens have a ball at NSW camp

Sydney Special Children's Foundation LogoCCA held an adventure camp for teens living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis at Collaroy Beach, New South Wales from 27-29 June, thanks to a generous grant from the Sydney Special Children’s Foundation. The participants had a ball taking part in all the activities as well as sharing their stories with one another.

A highlight of the weekend was a visit by CCA Ambassador and musician Luke Escombe, who shared his story as well as helping the participants create their own song about living with IBD.

Roger and Anne Hyde, founders of the Sydney Special Children’s Foundation, joined the participants and their parents for lunch – and surprised and delighted them by providing a grant for a second camp to be held in 2015! THANK YOU so much Roger and Anne – we know you saw how much the camp meant to the participants and are extremely grateful you are helping us run a second camp for them in 2015.

This camp was made possible by a donation from the Sydney Special Children’s Foundation.  In addition CCA would like to thank the following people for their support:

  • The Collaroy Centre
  • Action Photographics
  • Kings Comics in Sydney
  • Dale from BS Blank Shirts & Printing
  • Luke Escombe

I had an amazing time and can’t wait for there to be another one. Now, because of this camp, I have met people who are just like me and become close friends with many of them. Thank you for helping me come out of my shell.

Thank you so much for organising the camp and lunch yesterday.  It has been an amazing experience for all the kids and given them wonderful connections with each other.  I know they have already been ‘facebooking’ and Tomas is definitely looking forward to the next one.

I would just like to thank you very much for taking very good care of my daughter over the weekend. She had a great time and hasn’t stopped talking about the weekend and all the new friends that she has made. This was a great experience for her and one that she and the others all needed. She is already talking about the next camp.

Thank you to CCA and the Foundation. Abby had a wonderful time. She loved meeting everyone, the activities and meeting Luke – but most of all she loved being able to talk about her story with others who understand, and hearing their stories too. Really incredible support.

I felt privileged to be a part of this camp. My hand is definitely up for mentoring at the next camp.
