| CCA Support Groups are mutual aid groups, which means that all of the members, including the facilitator are impacted by Crohn's or ulcerative colitis (IBD) in some way. Support Group meetings provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals impacted by IBD can express themselves openly and receive support and understanding from others with similar experiences. Studies conducted regarding Chronic Illness Support Groups indicate that compared to non-participants, there are significant benefits such as: a more positive outlook on life; greater satisfaction with their medical care; increased self-esteem and; reduced feelings of shame and isolation.
