Hot Seat Winnings to CCA

Tardy tradies and budget blow outs were not the only things Katrina Chambers was battling during her high-profile home renovation on The Block. As well as having to complete renovating tasks under the gaze of a national audience, the 33-year-old mother of three was also managing complications arising from Crohn’s disease.

Chambers, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease 16 years ago, required frequent visits to her gastroenterologist at St Vincent’s Hospital while filming in Richmond. But the Wagga-based mother was determined to turn her illness into a positive by speaking openly about her health battles in an effort to raise awareness of the condition.

Her efforts received a welcome boost when she and her sister, Amie, won the celebrity edition of Channel 9’s Hot Seat, picking up $10,000 for their charity of choice, Crohn's & Colitis Australia. “I know how much funding is required to get drug trials up and research, so I want to help that in any way I can,” Chambers said.

Chambers said she had been approached by many people with Crohn’s and colitis since appearing on The Block and Hot Seat, grateful she was raising the profile of the disease, and inspiring people to speak out about the illness. “Unless you know about it or someone with it, it can be such a secretive thing,” she said. “But doing the show just goes to show it’s still manageable and that life still goes on.”

A big thank you to Katrina and Amie for their support. All the team at CCA would like to wish the sisters the very best of luck in the final auction tomorrow night.

IBD makes a splash
Surfer and CCA ambassador Brittani Nicholl got the chance to meet one of her idols when former world surfing champion Layne Beachely invited her to take part in the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic celebrity event in Sydney on May 7.
Brittani, who has Crohn's and was the face of the Can't Wait Campaign, lead one of the four celebrity teams competing for the chance to win their nominated charity $5000.

And while her team - comprising Home & Away’s David Jones-Roberts, musical theatre star Rob Mills and former Test cricketer Stuart MacGill - didn’t win, Brittani was the only team leader singled out for an to be interviewed by Layne about her nominated charity.
“The day was a lot of fun and because they interviewed me, we got quite a few mentions because I was the only team leader directly affected by the causes represented on the day,” Brittani said.
