Crohn's & Colitis Australia (CCA) was established by Angela McAvoy in 1985, soon after she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Angela formed Australian Crohn's & Colitis Association (now CCA) after discovering there were no support services available in Australia. Angela led the organisation as a volunteer for 21 years before the first CEO was employed in 2006.
CCA has been making life more liveable for more than 61,000 Australians. It is our mission to support people with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (collectively termed IBD), with a focus on confidential support programs, education, advocacy, counselling, increasing awareness, and raising funds for research and support. All services are offered free-of-charge.
CCA is a not-for-profit organisation with an honorary board of directors. CCA does not receive any state or federal government funding, and relies on membership and donations to run its programs.
