Welcome to Crohn's and Colitis Australia and thank you for taking the time to visit our website. This new upgraded website is an integral part of our program delivery.  It is designed to inform those new to Crohn's and colitis (collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)) and to provide an accessible support and information service to the thousands of people who are members of Crohn's and Colitis Australia.

Many people have never heard of IBD when they are first diagnosed and feel isolated, bewildered by the news and often alone. With at least 61,000 Australians who live with the diagnosis every day there is certainly no need to feel alone. Unfortunately however, we live in a society where bowels and all things related are considered taboo in "polite" conversation and to openly discuss a bowel related medical condition is to invite uncomfortable looks and childish comments. This makes the disease difficult to discuss, distressing and embarrassing for the person diagnosed.

Through this website, we intend to raise awareness and support for those living with IBD and build momentum to have the issues publicly addressed to help reduce the personal, social and emotional impact of these diseases.

Several years ago little was known about breast and prostate cancer. Today both of these health issues have strong profiles and solid funding. I see a similar exercise ahead for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

By becoming a member of Crohn's and Colitis Australia not only will you have access to our member only section of this website and exclusive benefits of membership but you will also be adding the voice of Crohn's and Colitis Australia so that we can be heard by decision makers and the general public. Together, we can make life more liveable for the increasing number of people diagnosed with IBD.
