World IBD Day 2010

CCA has been working with our international counterparts to organise an inaugural World IBD Day, held on Wednesday, May 19. The date coincided with National Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week 2010, which was held May 16-
22.
The purpose of the day was be to bring to international attention the needs of people living with IBD, articulated with a unified worldwide voice.
The leading IBD organisations from Australia, America, Canada, Europe, the UK and South America took part in the event. The website, http://www.worldibdday.org/, outlines the aims of the day and the support required for people living with Crohn’s or colitis.
CCA chief executive Francesca Manglaviti said taking an international approach would help to highlight all of the issues relating to IBD.
"Harnessing extra noise for our cause of making life more livable for people with IBD will help us to raise awareness within the general community, governments and workplaces," Ms Manglaviti said.
Thank you to all the CCA members who helped raise awareness and funds during the week by supporting CCA’s media campaign and events, and organised awareness activities in their workplace, school or social club.

Awareness Week 2009
National Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Week was held from June 22-26. The theme was Working with IBD. During the week CCA launched two guides - Working with IBD: A Guide for Employers and Working with IBD: A Guide for Employees - to raise awareness of the impact of IBD in the workplace. The guides, distributed to every member, address issues such as workplace discrimination, workplace adjustments, sick leave, and employer and employee entitlements and legal obligations. Thank you to all the members who shared their personal stories in the media to raise awareness about the issue. To view the guides click here.
Thank you also to everyone who raised money and community awareness about Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis by participating in, or hosting, fundraising events during the week.
